Teacher Brenda

We feel so fortunate to have had Teacher Brenda as Kayenne’s first English mentor. Teacher Brenda fostered in her, a love of learning. She was so excited to go to teacher Brenda’s lesson every week.

 

I would like to commend Teacher Brenda for her passion in teaching and dedication to her students. She has been teaching Kayenne for the past 3 years and I have always found her to be a caring and committed teacher. She puts in great effort to help her students make the best of their potential. She is very patient and ensured that her students could grasp and understand the taught concept before moving on. Kayenne enjoyed being taught by her, and always shares her positive experiences in class with us.

 

Teacher Brenda also made an effort to give updates and timely feedback to us. I would like to express my appreciation to Teacher Brenda for her patience and support towards my daughter for the past 3 years, it has had such a positive impact on Kayenne.

Melvern joins Shine Language since he was in K1.  Honestly, I was skeptical at first.  It is a home-based enrichment programme and its course fee is pocket-friendly, especially if you compare it with the well known reading enrichment centres out there.  Would it be good and effective?  However, barely three months into the programme, Melvern started to read independently – not only words but sentences in picture books!  I am really impressed with it!  The school’s teaching method has proven to engage him very well, not only making him a curious advanced reader, but also quenching his thirst in learning English. 

When COVID-19 hits the whole world badly and affects everyone’s way of life, the lessons had to stop for a little while.  Melvern was quite sad he could not go to Teacher Brenda’s home.  So when Shine Language offered VOL (Virtual Online Lessons), I immediately signed him up without a doubt.  While it is obviously challenging to engage preschoolers learning through Zoom, Shine Language has implemented good measures to address it and Teacher Brenda has done a wonderful job consistently.  She has been able to engage him during VOL sessions as good as physical lessons.  Even though Melvern is only a K2 pupil, learning English (especially grammar and comprehension) through Zoom is apparently a breeze!

Thank you Teacher Brenda for your dedication and guidance to Melvern throughout the one and a half years.  I believe he will be more than ready for P1 next year and you will be missed by him (and me) for sure.

Shine is prompt to come up with VOL arrangement during this pandemic so that children do not lag behind on learning. My daughter has been looking forward to each VOL and is fully engaged during lessons. Programme is well planned for VOL and illustrations are clear on the screen, making it no difference from attending a physical lesson. Worksheets are very helpful. Thumbs up to Teacher Brenda for delivering the lesson in an interesting and effective manner! My daughter benefited a lot!

Dear Teacher Brenda,

We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude. You are one of the most dedicated teachers we have come across. You are always going the extra mile to start the class earlier and making sure the children are able to understand what was taught in class before dismissal. When we first sent Shebelle to your class, she was not even able to do the letter sound. After a short period of time, she was able to recognize not only letter sounds but also able to blend and read. We personally feel that having that phonological awareness is so important! In addition to her being equipped with the ability to blend words for reading, she is also able to complete her comprehension independently. Please continue to be that engaging and nurturing teacher for the children! Once again, thank you so much for making such a big difference in her early childhood education!

At the end of my girls’ K1 academic year, we decided that our girls would need some help with their phonics as they were still not quite able to read (despite having some basic understanding of phonics). We decided on Shine Language School and requested for Teacher Brenda who stays in the same neighbourhood as us.

Teacher Brenda told us that as most of her students had already been in her class for a while, my girls would need to be in the ‘intensive’ class to get them up to speed with the other kids in preparing for Primary One. She started off by spending extra time outside of the lesson to coach my girls to ensure that they had a good foundation in phonics.  Apart from that, she also made it a point to communicate with us on the things which she had taught and directing our attention to some of the things which our girls would have to spend more time practising.

Her tremendous dedication and efforts in coaching the kids shows as we are now amazed at the progress of our daughters’ ability to read in the short 4 months they have been with Teacher Brenda. They are now keen to read books on their own and even practising what they learnt by trying to read signs in malls and along the streets. For this, we are grateful to Teacher Brenda. We also have no qualms recommending her as a teacher whom you can partner with, to help your kids to grow in phonics and the english language.

It was a pleasure seeing my 2 children, Nicolette, 9 and Elijah, 6 developing and progressing under Teacher Brenda’s coaching. It is heart-warming to know that she cares for the children and puts in the extra effort and patience in helping them in their development. Brenda has been teaching Grace for more than 2 years. Grace enjoys her phonics lessons and has improved tremendously in her reading. Consequently, she’s able to make use of phonics to help her in her spelling too. Convinced by Brenda’s effective teaching strategies, we have also enrolled our younger daughter, Joy, in her class. Dear Teacher Brenda,

We are indeed very blessed and thankful that we got to know about you and put Shannice and Jayden with you.  The Crash Course that Shannice attended had groomed her to be confident and competent in the language.  Your selfless dedication and patience had also made her love the language.  Due to the confidence that we have in you, we had signed her up for the primary programme with Teacher Clara.  As for Jayden, we are very impress and happy with his progress.  We belief he will benefit even more from the regular programme.  Once again, thank you for everything that you have done for Shannice and Jayden.
